Ministry of Water Resources, created on August 04, 2017 after bifurcation of the erstwhile Ministry of Water & Power, has been able to get approval of two multipurpose Diamer Basha and Mohmand dams, long awaited National Water Policy along with Pakistan’s Water Charter as well as commissioning of the three hydropower projects with cumulative installed capacity of 2487 MW.

The policy is aimed to provide a major response to the emerging water crisis through:

- ? Providing a set of agreed national targets for water conservation, water storage, water treatment and clean drinking water.

- ? Leading to a sustained national commitment to substantially increase public and private resources for the water sector.

- ? Creating an institutional framework that can address present deficiencies in project management and cost effective maintenance on a war footing to revive the technical capacity and efficiency of the system that achieved such remarkable progress between 1950 and 1990.
